3 TECHNOLOGIES THAT ARE CHANGING DENTISTRY

Derek Seymour • Feb 25, 2020

Times have truly changed. There was a time when you had to physically go to a dentist’s office to book an appointment. Alternatively, you could call the office to book the appointment, but that method was time-consuming as waiting for the operator to connect you to the dentist was inefficient. Fast forward to 2019, nowadays, you can use your smartphone to connect with your dentist directly. Sometimes, you don’t even have to visit the office since your dentist can write you a prescription directly, and you can pay through your phone. Here are 3 more technologies that are transforming dentistry:

1. 3D PRINTERS

Instead of ordering custom veneers, crowns, tooth replacements, aligners from a manufacturer, dentists can make these items themselves using a 3D printer. This technology helps save time. Instead of waiting for ages for the dentist to get veneers or crowns delivered at a later date, they can be installed on the same day. The dentist only needs to get the measurements and specifications, write them in the 3D printer, and let the machine do its work.

2. INTRAORAL SCANNERS

Nowadays, dentists don’t have to make clay and wax molds of your teeth for reconstructive oral surgery. They can use 3D digital impressions. The procedure is not invasive as the dentist just needs to take a 3D scan of your mouth by placing the scanner above your open mouth. The 3D image is projected directly onto the computer, and the dentist can begin preparations for oral surgery.

3. LASER TREATMENT

It is common practice for dentists to use stitches to seal an oral wound after invasive surgery. However, there is another way that dentists can do oral surgery. Instead of using scalpels and other traditional surgery tools, they can use laser technology for reconstructive surgery. The laser can be used to reshape gums and get rid of tooth decay.

These technologies are improving dental practice by reducing the amount of time it takes to perform oral surgery. They are also preferred by patients because they are not invasive. If you don’t have any of the above technologies in your dental practice, you should consider investing in them because they can help you attract more clients.
