FOUR WAYS AN EHR SOFTWARE CAN HELP YOUR PRACTICE

Derek Seymour • Sep 05, 2019

If you don’t already use Electronic Health Records (EHR) for your practice, you’re missing out. EHR systems have a lot to offer. Learn about the four ways in which EHR systems can improve your practice below.

1. Increase patient engagement

When your patients are engaged, they’re happy. Using EHR systems makes it easier for your patients to stay engaged, as they can use their patient portal to take a more interactive approach to healthcare. With access to test results online, patients don’t need to wait for doctors to call them to get their results. They can be proactive and look for the results themselves.

2. Take a Joint Approach

Thanks to EHR implementation, you can take a collaborative approach towards a patient’s healthcare. Patients can view educational materials through the patient portal. Then, they can develop a better understanding of their health issue.

When they meet with their doctor, they have all the facts they need to discuss the situation. It’s much more productive than the alternative. Without this collaborative approach, a patient has little chance for discussion. He/she can’t judge whether or not a treatment is ideal for his/her situation.

3. Improve the data entry process

Data entry is a tedious process that is far from perfect. However, EHR implementation makes the process less painful. For example, consider the templates that come with EHR systems. Those templates make it quicker for a doctor to input information into their computer.

When you use a reliable software, you can also limit the time it takes for data input. Instead of having your data sitting on a pile on a desk, you can have it already organized on your network. As soon as someone types in the information, it stays in the software. There’s less waiting and less paperwork.

4. Achieve a Higher Level of Efficiency

If you want a successful practice, you need to be efficient. Efficiency keeps both your clients and your employees happy. By helping your practice stay organized, an EHR system can keep your office running smoothly.

EHR also improves communication in your office and among patients. Your staff won’t waste time completing duplicate tasks or waiting for data. Instead, all the information is in the system.
